Our full-time campus, situated in Musgrave, Durban, ensures that students who enrol with us enjoy a full student life that includes lectures, personal development, and an exciting sport and social programme while they study towards these internationally-recognised Physical IQ National Certificates.

At NewBridge College, you will attend full-time lectures in support of your National Certificates in Sports Management and Fitness which are accredited by the Department of Education and CATHSETA (Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority).  This qualification will be accompanied by the NewBridge College exclusive Professional Development Programme, and relevant Short Learning Programmes offered through innovative learning platforms like edx.org.

As an independent learning platform and environment, NewBridge College does not offer, provide or confer this qualification. NewBridge College provides support and facilitation towards this registered and accredited qualification from Physical IQ. The registered local higher and further education institutions remain responsible for registering students, assessing students’ performance, and providing and delivering the curriculum. Furthermore, as an independent learning platform and environment, NewBridge College curates Short Learning Programmes and non-higher education certifications towards industry and career-aligned programmes and portfolios.

PHYSICAL IQ ACCREDITATION SCHEDULE

Physical IQ is registered with the Department of Education and accredited by CATHSETA and all programmes have been registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

The National Certificate in Fitness (SAQA ID: 23374) and the National Certificate in Sports Management (SAQA ID: 60309) are conferred through Physical IQ and accredited by SAQA.

PHYSICAL IQ INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

Most overseas countries recognise South African qualifications that are registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and compare them to specific levels within the country’s education system. All Physical IQ qualifications are registered with SAQA. Physical IQ courses are accredited with REPSSA (the governing body for Fitness in SA) and are recognised by all major gyms, both locally and abroad.

Physical IQ is the only institution in South Africa that facilitates and supports qualifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine, the most respected fitness institution in the world. NASM certifications are the most sought-after in the personal trainer industry, setting the standards for leading sports medicine, performance enhancement, and health and fitness sciences.

NATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS FRAMEWORK (NQF)

The format of all qualifications in South Africa is governed by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Act, 2008, that came into being through the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). SAQA is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the NQF and provides a standard format in which qualifications may be offered by private and public institutions.

The NQF aims to provide qualifications that enjoy national recognition and, where appropriate, international comparability. It also strives to provide clear learning paths in the qualifications’ structures, and facilitates and supports life-long learning and career advancement.

While the older version of the NQF differentiated between eight levels of qualifications, the reworked NQF now provides for ten different levels of qualifications.

The SETA is mandated to promote and facilitate the delivery of education, training and development in order to enhance the skills profile of the Education, Training and Development (ETD) sector and contribute to the creation of employment opportunities especially for those previously disadvantaged. The Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA) is one of the 21 SETAs established under the Skills Development Act (No 97 of 1998) in 2001.
