It’s not what students learn, but rather how they learn that will facilitate ongoing personal and career growth. NewBridge College prides itself on an advanced blended educational approach. This comprises extra lessons, student collaborative teaching, extensive group work, online engagement and discussion, soft skills development, professional and personal development and a teach-lecture-tutor methodology.
Central to our learning and teaching ethos are small classes, encouraging innovation in both our educators and students. Our education model is designed to be fun and engaging, improving understanding, individual development and, ultimately, achievement.
Through careful planning, we offer an immersive learning experience, while providing a full-time support programme for high-quality, affordable private tertiary education.
Here students’ study towards a NewBridge College qualification. You require a single registration with NewBridge College, which ensures that we take full responsibility for:
- the registration of students for the SETA qualification,
- the provision and delivery of the curricula,
- the assessment of students regarding the learning programmes, and
- conferring the qualification.
Here NewBridge College offers an additional and voluntary support programme to externally registered and accredited distance or online qualifications, students are required to have two separate and independent registrations.
Your primary registration is with an external provider of distance or online education. This registration ensures that you register with an external institution that takes complete responsibility for:
- the registration of students for higher or further education
- the provision and delivery of the curricula,
- the assessment of students regarding the learning programmes, and
- conferring the qualification.
This registration ensures that you are studying towards a qualification that is registered and accredited in South Africa. In this instance, please note that NewBridge College has no agreement with the external institution as such agreements are not allowed within our regulatory landscape. NewBridge College does not offer these qualifications in its own name, nor does it provide any services on behalf of the external provider.
Your secondary registration is with NewBridge College. This registration is to attend the NewBridge College campus. Here we offer a voluntary and additional support programme for students who elect to study towards one of the external distance qualifications. NewBridge College offers a full-time campus environment for students who see the value and flexibility offered by studying towards a distance degree, but who also seek the full time Campus experience, extra lessons through our support programme, personal and professional development and an active sport and social life.
If you are looking to benefit from the full offering of the distance provider and looking for additional voluntary support, then you choose to register with NewBridge College. This registration will allow you to attend our campus where you will benefit from:
- Our student campus that affords each student the opportunity to experience a campus life that includes, student support, sports and social engagement, study groups and personal and professional development,
- Our programmes that assist with adapting to post school study, allowing you to gain self-confidence and academic maturity while developing both interpersonal and collaborative learning skills,
- Our unique tutorial support model. Here we engage independent tutors who are subject matter experts. Our experts assist students in navigating difficult academic concepts, bringing practical explanations of how academic teachings may be applied in the working world. Our tutorial support is voluntary and additional to all teaching provided by the registered distance provider. Our experts are subject matter experts who are there to assist and explain but are not employed by the distance provider. As such their support is seen as additional support and must not be seen to replace any learning obligations that the student has to the registered distance provider, and
- Attend our pioneering NewBridge Accelerate Academy.
Our years of experience allow us to offer you a blend of campus life, personal development and work readiness that runs alongside your responsibilities as a student registered and studying towards a distance qualification.
Students find the transition from school to post school study and from post school study to the working world challenging, and the increase in distance and online learning has highlighted many barriers to learning. Some of the issues that make these transitions challenging include:
- Insufficient skills in self-directed learning,
- Lack of feedback and personalized support,
- Not able to connection and collaboration,
- Previous negative experiences,
- Lack authenticity and purpose,
- Inequitable access to connectivity,
- Lack of technology skills,
- Lack of focus on learning over the completion of tasks and assignments,
- Lack of engagement and integration with student on campus life, and
- Insufficient opportunity to gain practical experience.
Many institutions understand these challenges and speak to the skills students need in order to successfully complete their studies. However, students (and more especially school-leavers) require more than an understanding that the challenges exist, and what they are – they need to be taught how to become successful students, and ultimately real world ready. Having the tools, such as tutorials and study groups, as well as various platforms are only part of the solution, students need to learn how best to take advantage of the learning opportunities provided. With this in mind NewBridge College has developed the unique NewBridge College Accelerate Academy.
Our pioneering NewBridge Accelerate Academy is coupled with relevant Short Learning Programmes (SLPs) offered through a range of internationally recognised global universities and institutions, offered on innovative learning platforms such as edX and Coursera.
Student life can play a critical role in the development of young adults, and NewBridge College provides exciting opportunities for students to get involved in campus life through social activities, clubs and sports.
The Sports and Social activities are scheduled to blend seamlessly with and complement each student’s academic programme, ensuring there is an opportunity for everyone to get involved, while the NewBridge College Sports Academy has been specifically designed to nurture talent and hone skills in a range of sports and fitness areas. The NewBridge College Sports Academy offers a comprehensive and holistic approach to preparing athletes, players and fitness enthusiasts to perform and reach the goals required for their personal sporting, health or fitness objectives.
